Cabin Repairs Add comments

Well, the email subscription seems to be working now. I guess it just took a day or so to kick in. Remember, you need to open the confirmation email that you will be sent and click on the link inside it to complete the process. After that you should receive an email whenever I make a new post.

Yesterday I was overtaken by exhaustion. I don’t know if I had a bug or what, but shortly after breakfast I became incredibly sleepy and went back to bed. I cracked the window a bit in case it was due to Carbon Monoxide buildup, but I ended up sleeping through most of the day, and then slept all through the night last night. Today I felt better, so who knows?

I went down under the cabin and worked on the electrical system today. I got all of the remaining circuits connected to the circuit breaker, strung the wire for the hot water heater and connected that up to the 220 circuit breakers. I had to redo some of the wiring between that breaker box and the main box because somebody did it wrong at some point in the past. Then I ran a new line to connect up the wiring for the outlets and lights under the cabin and connected that to the breaker box too. It was dark down there and I had to keep the main circuit breakers off while I did all this, so I just worked with a flashlight held between my teeth. All of that took a long time, partly because I kept having to come back inside to find parts or tools.

I expect to finish up the scaffolding tomorrow and get the siding off. I may even be able to start replacing the old copper pipe, but it depends on how long it takes me to get to that point. Once I have the new pipes in, I can turn on the hot water heater and cross my fingers. Actually, the installation on that was very simple, so I am not at all worried that I made any mistakes.

Now that all that wiring is done in the utility closet, I shouldn’t have to mess with it down there again. There’s still a lot to repair in the electrical system inside the house, but that should be much easier and I can do that anytime after the plumbing is done. Clear weather is expected for at least a few more days, so I should be able to finish the plumbing repairs and get the siding back on this week easily (knock on wood). ;)
