It’s Done!!!

Cabin Repairs Add comments

I got the last of the pipes connected today. There was one leak on the main pipe, just above the incoming water supply, but I had planned ahead for that and bought a new piece of pipe, so it was easy to switch it out. I had everything done and turned on the water heater by 4:44 p.m. and that worked too! It’s so nice to have hot water to wash my hands. :)

I spent another hour putting insulation on all the pipes where they run through the walls and then came in and cleaned the tub. Tomorrow I will check everything for leaks and may start putting the siding back on. However, it did rain a bit today and some of the insulation got wet, so I might wait a day or so to make sure it is all dry before I seal everything up again.

Tonight, after I make dinner, I will have my first shower at the cabin! :D

In a few more weeks I should have most of the electrical system repaired and all my stuff unpacked. So I am almost ready for guests! Not that many of you would want to visit in the Winter, probably, but at least I’ll be ready. I will also have more time for exploring the woods and doing other fun stuff (when I’m not working, of course).

I am very tired tonight, but very relieved! I can’t wait to have the house put back together and have all this behind me. Plus, I should be able to find some more interesting things to write about as I get out and explore more. The plumbing saga has been worth relating (in a horrific sort of way) but I’ll be glad not to have to write about it anymore. ;)

    Congratulations!!!! You did it!

I’m imagining you in the shower and warm water soothing all those aches and pains.
We went to see “Into the Wild” tonight. Definitely worth seeing–I think you would really appreciate it.
I’ll call tomorrow! I want to hear your happy voice.

You should be really proud of yourself–your problem solving and your sticking to it.

And I spent most of the day under the house today. I put up another shelf–put had many problems and did not persist in “doing it right”. However, its up, and most of the rest of the areas are generally cleaned out and straightened. Of course, still decisions to make and stuff to organize, but progress!
and thanks for the compliment! From a real problem solver to a “it can be figured out” person.

HI David, just wanted to congratulate you on getting the plumbing working. What an ordeal, but it must be very satisfying to have accomplished it with your own ingenuity. We’ve been asking ourselves and each other every day ‘do you think he got his shower today’ or, just ‘did he do it?’ Thanks for breaking the suspense. I think it’s pretty funny that while you were trying to get your water running, I managed to make our bathtup overflow. We did manage to rescue the stuff under the house– barely. All I can say is, ‘you’re the top!’. We can only wonder what your next adventures will be.
    lots of love, Jerry

Thanks! It does feel good to have accomplished this. I’ll feel better when I have the house back together and everything looks Ok again. Actually, I have just one more thing to do plumbing-wise, but it is not urgent. I need to install a drain for the washer and dryer that I hope to have someday, but I can really do that anytime, so it is not urgent, and I don’t need to have the walls open for that either. Glad you saved everything that got wet. Sounds like it was a lot of work, but that never scared you guys! -David

Soundin’ good. So glad you can take some time to dream and plan and figure out the next step.
And good luck on the job search!
I’m working on the big dyptich and still doing some small ordering under the house–the insulation on those heat pipes is now dry so I need to tape up the foil insulation. Its been cold and rain here.
