Going Green

Salad Greens Coming Up As promised, here’s a picture of the salad greens coming up after just four days! Obviously, some thinning will be required in a week or so, but for now it is exciting seeing all those plants erupting from the soil! It helps that we used 100% good potting soil, some of which had fertilizer added, and that they are protected on the deck. It is also much easier to water this small plot than the entire garden up by the main house. At any rate, in a few weeks I should start to have the makings of some good salads. There are several kinds of lettuce planted as well as chives, radishes, and cilantro.

Herb Garden on the Deck The herbs we transplanted to new containers are doing well too. They seemed to perk up immediately when we replanted them, but then many of them were very root bound in the old containers. I have snipped back the ends of most of the branches, hoping they will branch out and get bushier. The small plants in the foreground are some apple trees I started from seed, just for fun. I know they don’t breed “true” but I think it will be fun to see what they produce, if I am back this way in 3-4 years when they might start producing anything at all. ;)
